Surabhi Laddha

Born in Amravati (Maharashtra), completed Commercial Arts From Sophia Polytechnic in Mumbai. I was always drawn towards art in any form. What made me sure of pursuing art direction as my career were the opportunities to view many varied films at the film festivals. While assisting renowned Production Designers in Bombay for over 6 years I had a great learning experience on vast canvases of feature films, home interior, still shoots, tvcs & so on.Was fortunate enough to have gained the experience of learning the craft under country’s most seasoned Production Designers - Sabu Cyril, Sharmishta Roy & Suzzane Merwanji. The years spent working with them have only made me understand how to best utilise any space & convert it overnight to the best usage for camera & script, to set dress and make the sets / ambience feel so real that it’s truly helps the characters feel one with it & to have the finesse in the smallest of detail on set through, textures, softs, lights & props.

I am an Art Director / Aspiring Production Designer & striving to be a better one every day. With the director & cinematographer, I love designing spaces, adding characters to it, best utilize them for what is required for the scripts & enhance it so the actors feel more in their character in the created ambience & give their best shot. I expertise in providing an aesthetic and practical solution to the director’s vision. Most of my inspiration is from Nature. God’s creation.. as they say “An Art Director is also doing the same job as God in its temporary format of creating make-believe spaces & ambience.”

I enjoy realistic, graphic, flamboyant, modern all kinds of spaces/set-ups. They bring their own charm & challenges on the table. The finesse comes through the details we use in material, fabrics, props etc. It’s a job which is never the same even if we do it the second time over. Thrilling & on our toes all the time.
